The French techno-pop duo Daft Punk has called it quits after a partnership of 28 years. The gravity of ending a relationship after such a long time is compelling even if you have never heard of them. We base a lot of belief and trust on the enduring dependency of our closeness with others. These moments shake our core and seem to echo a quiet sadness within.

They chose to communicate the break up with this video. It’s hard to ferret out what exactly gives the greatest impact here: the austere, pared down, choreography of two robots ending it all or the knowledge that this communication is loaded with the real-life relationship coming to a close. Does it matter? I personally LOVE that they communicated through art instead of a carefully worded press release (though one of those may exist somewhere).

My question for you: Is this a dance film?
