A fascinating podcast by artist Nicholas Wilton. Thoughts about the artistic process with a lot of care and insight. It consistently draws parallels between the business of creation and the business of being a human.
Understanding Art
INTERVIEW – PRETTY THINGS
Today on Conversations On Dance, we are joined by choreographer Trey McIntyre. Trey first made his mark as a choreographer in the role of choreographic apprentice at Houston Ballet, a position created for him by then-director Ben Stevenson. He has since created dozens of works on internationally renowned companies, as well as founded his own company ‘Trey McIntyre Project’ and received critical and public attention for his work as a photographer. We talk to Trey about his early years at Houston Ballet, what it’s been like to return to choreograph for the company throughout the years, and his new work ‘Pretty Things’, set to the music of David Bowie will be performed in Houston from May 20th to the 29th. Get your tickets at houstonballet.org.
A Piece of Work
Did you know that Broad City wunder-komikerin Abbi Jacobson has a BFA in General Fine Arts? She used to bring the greeting cards she created (by hand) and sneak them into the collection at the MOMA gift shop, hoping that a customer might choose her design and bring it to the cash register, thus setting off a chain of events that would lead to her eventual art world celebrity. Instead, she ended up creating and starring in a hit television show that has helped define our current era. She’s a loser!
Her love for visual art never went anywhere and she made this completely adorable podcast where she introduces her comedian friends to exhibits, artists, and schools of thought and allows them to be themselves and react authentically…to ask questions, have their unique points of view, to even not like things! She is your best friend tourguide, showing you the things she is so excited about in her life and the enthusiasm is contagious.
The podcast only lasted 10 episodes, but it’s worth getting to be friends with she and her friends including Hannibal Buress, Tavi Gevinson, RuPaul, and Questlove.
