I am endlessly fascinated to watch how new technologies are used to create art and how new technologies are used to steal art. When they are used to do something that’s not otherwise possible, it’s exciting. Hard to sift through the loads of gunk we are inundated with. There very often seems to be a fear of anything new.
We have been using video projection for some time now to replace set construction. Is it shortcutting the art of set design, or does it achieve something that is otherwise not possible? Do these robot dancers offer a new way to explore how shape moves through space, or do they undercut the unique artistry of the human body expressing itself?
