Some of the automatons I make in my small carpentry and wood sculpture workshop. At the moment these pieces have all been sold, so I had to recover the footage from some old videos I made for instagram, so they are vertical and therefore to adapt them to the youtube format, they are very enlarged.
Dazzle camouflage was a style of camouflage that was used primarily in World War 1. They were mainly used by the British navy, and later the American navy. The purpose of these lines that intersect at different angles was not to hide the ship, but rather to misdirect the enemy’s judgment of how far the ship is. While these ships had increased visibility, the viewfinders of German submarines would often see the ship closer or further than it actually was, and misjudge the path the ship was moving towards. Another interesting fact is that no two patterns are alike, to avoid making classes of ships easily identifiable to the enemy. They are also really cool to look at.

Kayla is just as warm and vibrant as her artwork. She found her way to a creative career after completing her Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) under the prestigious Chancellor’s Scholar program at the University of Melbourne, and working as an analytical chemist for two years. She creates for the pure love of it, and that passion shines through in every pencil stroke.
She is a creative ray of sunshine to watch.
